The unique ABCD strategy
The ABCD strategy consists of four phases:
Absorb
Learning a new language starts with absorbing like a sponge. You’ll start with listening andreading with the exercises in this course. In this phase the focus lays on understanding the language and not on producing it.
Building blocks
These are the tools and knowledge you need to achieve your goal. This could be grammar, vocabulary, or useful phrases.
Consolidation
Time for guided action! All the building blocks are combined into a format, so you can practice before speaking in public. Visualize yourself in the daily Dutch situation and rehearse. You’ll get videos to speak along so you’ll feel confident before going to the last phase.

When does the course start and finish?
The course will officially start on Feb 26 but you can work at your own pace. I’ll be guiding you through the modules and if you follow my pace, the course will take 8 weeks (+ 2 reflection weeks aka break weeks in between).
There will be 2 live Quiz sessions (replay available) and a conversation class each week. This course is developed for the expat who wants a self paced course with guidance from a teacher and a community, to stay motivated. You will get access to the course for 2 years, so don't worry! You can take your time. During that time, you will remain a member of the online Facebook community, you will get support from your teacher Vivian.
Is this course interactive or self-paced online?
Both! Work through the lectures at your own pace. If you follow the structure of this course, you will reach A1 in only 8 weeks! But take all the time you need. There will be 2 Quiz sessions sessions. Not able to join? No worries! There will be a replay available. Any questions or do you want feedback? Your teacher Vivian is the host of the online community and is happy to help you!

What is the schedule of the live quiz sessions and conversation sessions?
I'll host 2 quiz sessions. These sessions will be on Tuesdays or Thursdays in the evening at 6 or 7 PM CET. These sessions will take place online.
The conversation sessions will be on Zoom on Thursdays (5 times) and Tuesdays (3 times) (I'll alternate between those days) at 6.15 or 7.15 PM CET. These sessions are a bonus. You can still get to level A1 if you miss (a few of) these sessions, so don't worry!
What is the difference between the DIY plus package and the premium package?
The DIYplus package is 100% flexible: do everything at your own pace and get feedback from Vivian.
The Premium package has everything from DIYplus + 8 additional conversation sessions. Those sessions are scheduled.
If you want the opportunity to practice with other students and get extra feedback, then pick the Premium Package. If you don't have time to join the converstion sessions and want something 100% flexible (but still get feedback and guidance), then pick the DIYplus package.
Is this course something for me?
This course is for complete beginners or beginners with a little experience in learning Dutch.
You might have studied a little bit, used Duolingo, or looked up some phrases and grammar. But honestly, you have no clue how to respond when a Dutch speaker asks you something. You want to speak Dutch and feel confident.
This course is NOT for you if you want a regular course with multiple Zoom sessions per week with a fixed schedule. This is not a course like that. Why? Because I know that keeping up with a group is hard (because of the schedule and because you might learn faster or slower than the other students).
What is level A1?
This course is going to get you from zero to A1(+). A basic ability to communicate and exchange information in a simple way.
Examples:
- Can ask questions about a menu and understand simple answers;
- Can follow speech that is very slow and varefully articulated, with long pauses for him/her to assimilate meaning;
- Can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has;
- Can recognize familiar names, words and very basic phrases on simple notices in the most common everyday situations.
I want to learn A2-level Dutch, is that possible?

Will I get a certificate?
Yes! After completing the course, you'll get a certification of participation/completion so that you can prove you've took lessons.
Please note that any certificate from any school is not legit when it comes to proving you're at a certain level. The only way you can do this is by taking an official exam by DUO. But of course, my certificate will help when an employer asks if you've taken lessons.
